Weight Loss (Bariatric) Surgeries
During bariatric surgery, anatomical changes are made to the digestive tract – the stomach size is reduced and/or nutrient absorption is decreased. Therefore, after the operation, the patient gradually and consistently loses excess body weight. Phone for inquiries: +371 29716952
About the service
Not everyone with just a few extra kilograms will be eligible for surgery. It is the most suitable weight loss method for individuals with a BMI over 35, especially when other recovery options, such as changes in eating and exercise habits, have not yielded the desired results. In individual cases, if type II diabetes is present, surgery may also be considered with a lower BMI.
These operations are also referred to as metabolic surgeries because, in addition to significant weight loss, blood pressure normalizes, glucose and insulin levels improve, and the distressing and health-threatening sleep apnea diminishes or disappears. Within the first year after surgery, patients gradually lose 50-70% of their excess weight.
Bariatric surgery is not related to weight loss methods such as “fat removal,” “liposuction,” and other plastic and cosmetic procedures.
